FAQ

IMPORTANT INFORMATION
Do the vessels come with product to put inside?

No. We are providing an aesthetic, durable, refillable vessel for you to put your own products inside.

You may choose to make your own products, inspired by our journal with lots of DIY recipes (and more to come).

Or you may choose to fill with products from your favourite brands. Ideally these products will come in the form of refill concentrates, dissolvable powders, tablets or bars, or refill pouches which significantly reduce plastic waste.

Are there any safety risks to be aware of?

It is very important not to store chemical reactives, biologically active ingredients, solvents, carbonated liquids, strong acids or strong bases in your vessels.

Please keep your vessels out of direct sunlight if they contain any of the following ingredients:

  • Volatile solvents such as alcohol or rubbing alcohol.
  • Hydrogen peroxide (and only store in heavily diluted form, otherwise use and discard).
  • Large quantities of essential oils.
  • Vinegar if mixed with bi-carb soda or other reactive substances.

These ingredients can cause an excessive amount of pressure to build up inside the vessel and can cause the dispensers to fail, the product to leak, or in extreme cases, it could cause the vessel to explode.

What are the 2 seals inside the vessel for?

The first seal you will see as you open the vessel is stamped "Sealed for your protection." This seal proves that your vessel has not been used, or tampered with. You may remove this and dispose of it.

The second seal is the cap liner, permanently adhered to the top of the cap. This liner is not essential, but is ideal for added protection against product leakage from pressure build up.

As our vessels allow for a wide variety of products to be stored inside them, it was challenging to find a cap liner that was suitable for all liquids. The adhesive bond under the cap liner may be compromised if you are using certain essential oils, alcohol or vinegar in your vessels, if so please email hello@amelihome.com for a free replacement seal which is adhesive free.

Please note, we are currently mid way through production of a new seal that will be compatible with all liquids and they will be provided free of charge as soon as they are available.

CARE AND MAINTENANCE
What can I put inside the vessels?

Our refillable vessels are made of 100% recycled HDPE plastic, which means they are extremely durable, however they are not compatible with all liquids so it is important to check that the liquids you wish to dispense are compatible with HDPE plastic.

It is very important not to store chemical reactives, biologically active ingredients, solvents, carbonated liquids, strong acids or strong bases in your vessels.

You may add essential oils to your vessels if they are diluted with other liquids or carrier oils. Liquids with an extremely high concentration of essential oils can potentially dissolve the vessel plastic over time and / or cause the bottle to warp, so this is not recommended.

The adhesive on the cap liner will be compromised with certain liquids, including some essential oils. If this occurs, please reach out for an adhesive free cap liner at hello@amelihome.com. We are currently producing universal cap liners and they will be available to purchase soon.

How do I apply the labels?

NOTE

You may apply the label to the vessel anywhere you like. Some of our customers have applied the label to the back, for a minimalist look, some around the neck of the bottle, however majority have placed the label on the front, above the 500ml text.

TO APPLY

Please ensure the surface of the vessel is clean and dry. Carefully remove the label from the label sheet with tweezers or your fingernail at the bottom edge. Ensure you do not get any fingerprints on the sticky side of the label or they will be visible once applied. Similarly, if you scratch or damage the sticky side of the label, this will be visible once it is applied.

Use the centre line between the 500ml | 16.9FL OZ as your guide to line up with the centre of the label and apply the label carefully ensuring not to get fingerprints on the sticky side. Ensure the label is pressed flat to the surface and use a soft cloth or your finger to press down the label, running back and forth to ensure a strong adhesion.

COMPATIBILITY

Our labels are moisture, heat and oil resistant when applied correctly. Due to the nature of matte printing, please use only gentle pressure when cleaning your vessels for better label text longevity.

If you have any issues with the application you may remove the label and try again, however please note the more times you remove and reapply, the higher the chance of label damage.

How should I care for the labels?

The labels are water and oil proof.

If the labels come into contact with cleaning products, please rinse promptly to ensure the font is not affected. Repeated exposure to cleaning products may cause the font to rub off in places. If you have any issues with your labels within the first 6 months, please email hello@amelihome.com for a complimentary label collection.

What liquids can I dispense with the sprays?

Our sprays are designed for general use, for household cleaners and laundry liquids commonly dispensed by sprayers.

Our product trials indicated that generally, the liquids listed on our label sheets were effectively dispensed with our sprays, however we cannot test all products so please keep this in mind and thoroughly read our FAQ page to ensure you get the best experience from your vessels.

This sprayer is not a mist spray, or a high output spray, so please avoid trying to dispense liquids that are better suited to these types of sprays.

Our sprays are compatible with vinegar when diluted with other liquids. However, please note that the presence of metal components inside the spray mechanism may lead to degradation of the spray trigger over time with prolonged exposure.

We offer free replacement sprays within your first 6 months of purchase. Alternatively, if you wish to purchase a replacement spray trigger, you can do so here.

Why is my spray trigger leaking?

Occasionally, depending on what products you have inside your spray vessel, and if they are stored in a warm environment, there may be some minor pressure build up inside the vessel after you use it, which could lead to spray trigger leaks.

To avoid this from happening, you can change the nozzle to the OFF position when not in use. Alternatively, loosen the bottle cap to reduce pressure after use. Or, store your spray vessel in a location with stable temperature, to mitigate this issue.

Please avoid shaking your vessels to mix products, to keep the pressure inside to a minimum. If you have shaken the bottle to mix DIY products, or when in use, please wait a few moments before putting the cap back on.

What liquids can I dispense with the pumps?

Our vessel pumps are designed for dispensing liquids of a medium viscosity such as hand wash, shampoo, body wash and detergents, just to name a few.

They are medium output pumps, suitable for face, hands and cleaning. Products like shampoo and body wash will still be dispensed with ease, however you may need an extra couple of pumps to get the desired amount of product. We are currently producing high output pumps which will be available next year.

Our product trials indicated that the liquids listed on our label sheets were effectively dispensed with our pump. However, we have no control over what products our customers will put inside the vessels, so it is important to note that certain highly viscous fluids have the potential to cause pump blockages due to their thick consistency. Products like body scrubs with large particles will also cause the pump dispenser to cease working.

If you have any issues with dispensing your product, you can try regularly rinsing the pump with warm water.

Liquids with low viscosity may not effectively be dispensed, or may be released in an upwards motion rather than downwards.

We offer free replacement pumps within your first 6 months of purchase. Alternatively, if you wish to purchase a replacement pump you can do so here.

Are the vessels dishwasher safe?

The vessels and tray are dishwasher safe, however the cap liner and the bespoke labels are not, so we advise against this.

How often should I clean the vessels?

Please clean all components every time you refill your vessels, to avoid the accumulation of bacteria.

We also recommend a weekly clean of the exterior. Please ensure the base of the vessels and inside of the tray are clean and dry to avoid mould growth.

How should I clean the vessels?

Mix a solution of warm water and dishwashing liquid to clean the inside and outside of the vessels.

To clean the pump or spray, use the same solution above, pour it into your vessel and place the dip tube into the water and pump or spray the dispenser several times to rinse thoroughly.

Allow each part to dry if possible before reassembling.

We also recommend a gentle clean of the exterior and tray once a week with a soft cloth and some mild dishwashing liquid. Please be gentle with the labels for better longevity of the text.

I have an issue with my pump or spray, how can I fix it?

Trials conducted by our manufacturers Quality Control team have indicated that our pumps and sprays can be used at least 2000 times. If you are experiencing issues with your pump or spray, please check that the liquid is suitable, as noted above. You may require a pump that is better suited to low or high viscosity liquids.

Please follow the pump or spray cleaning instructions above to resolve the issue. If you cannot resolve the issue, please email hello@amelihome.com and advise what liquid type you are trying to dispense and if it is compatible, we will arrange a free replacement for you within 6 months of your purchase date.

Sprays and pumps can also be purchased on our website at any time.

Can the vessels withstand sunlight?

Over time, the vessels may fade if exposed to direct sunlight.

It is very important to keep your vessels out of direct sunlight if they contain any of the following ingredients:

  • Volatile solvents such as alcohol or rubbing alcohol.

Are the vessels BPA free?

Yes. We have undertaken testing on our products with the global leaders in polymer testing. This testing has proven the safety of the post-consumer recycled materials used to manufacture our vessels, including being 100% BPA free.

What are the dimensions?

Pump vessel: 8cm x 18cm (including pump height. The pump height does not change once opened).

Spray vessel 8cm x 19.5cm including spray height.

Tray 16.5cm x 8.4cm.

Why are they not called forever bottles?

Besides the fact that plastic bottles will break down eventually, most manufacturers, including ours, will advise a maximum ten year lifespan on plastic bottles.  However, from a safety and hygiene point of view, the bottle should be replaced much earlier than this, for example, if the plastic has weakened from a lot of sunlight exposure, or if microscopic scratches are on the surface, harbouring bacteria, just to name a few.

We recommend replacing your bottles every two years.

Whilst we love the idea of our bottles being kept forever, the reality is, this is just not possible.

Our pumps, sprays and cap liners have a much shorter lifespan than our vessels and sprays and we do offer free replacements within 6 months, or they can be purchased from our Accessories Collection page.

Why not glass or aluminium?

Our first business objective is to drive the adoption of a new consumption model for personal and home care products, to eliminate single use plastic bottles.

This is a big shift for a lot of consumers, so it was important to make this an easy transition first and foremost, without obstacles that will impact the user experience, health and safety.

Throughout our pre-manufacturing trial phase, our Founder tested both glass and aluminium bottles but after one of the bottles smashed in the shower, she concluded that this was not a practical or safe solution. From a safety point of view, glass is not an ideal material in wet rooms, particularly when most shower ledges are slanted for water run-off. It also poses a high risk to children and the elderly, so at this point, plastic is a safer option that is much more likely to be adopted.

The alternative was aluminium, however from a sustainability point of view, at recycling facilities painted aluminium bottles
are often confused with plastic bottles which often leads to them heading to landfill. From an aesthetic point of view, painted aluminium bottles scratch very easily, which encourages consumers to feel the need to replace the bottle more frequently, again defeating the purpose.

Our vessels are made of 100% recycled HDPE plastic which has the highest recycling rate of all plastics in Australia.
